Megadeth to Release Final Album and Embark on Farewell Tour

Thrash metal titans Megadeth have announced their upcoming album will be their last, followed by a farewell tour slated for 2026. This marks a significant moment for the band, allowing them to conclude their illustrious career on their own terms.

Dave Mustaine’s Sentiments

Dave Mustaine, Megadeth’s founder and frontman, released a statement on Thursday, sharing his thoughts on the decision. “There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional,” Mustaine stated. “Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them.”

Dave Mustaine, of Megadeth, performs during the Louder Than Life Music Festival on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, in Louisville, Ky.

Details Yet to Be Unveiled

While the announcement confirms the band’s impending retirement from recording and extensive touring, specific details regarding:

  • The final album’s title.
  • Its release date.
  • The full schedule of farewell tour dates.

…are still under wraps. Mustaine’s statement followed a cryptic teaser post from the band on Wednesday that simply read, “The end is near…”

Mustaine’s Message to Fans

Mustaine’s message to fans was one of celebration rather than sorrow. He urged them, “Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years. We have done something together that’s truly wonderful and will probably never happen again.”

He proudly reflected on Megadeth’s legacy, emphasizing their role in:

  • Starting a musical style.
  • Igniting a revolution.
  • Changing the guitar world and how it’s played.
  • Influencing the world at large.

He concluded by thanking fans for their support, saying, “I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.”

Band History

Megadeth was founded by Dave Mustaine in 1983, shortly after his departure from Metallica, a band he co-founded. They released their debut album, “Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good!” in 1985, setting the stage for decades of influential thrash metal.
