“I caught something”: Miley Cyrus talks infection and ICU stay after Walk of Fame shoot

The pop star shares the behind-the-scenes story of her ICU scare, her dedication to her art, and the unexpected consequences of rolling on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A moment of glam turned risky

Miley Cyrus may be known for her bold performances and fearless artistry, but even she didn’t expect a music video shoot to land her in the intensive care unit. During a candid appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this week, the 32-year-old singer revealed that she was briefly hospitalized with a “brutal” infection that developed shortly after filming on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Promoting her upcoming visual album Something Beautiful and its companion film of the same name, Miley explained how one of the project’s standout videos unexpectedly took a toll on her health. The video in question, for a track called Walk of Fame, features the Grammy winner rolling and dancing on the iconic—but notoriously grimy—Hollywood Boulevard. “I caught something!” she joked to host Jimmy Kimmel, trying to downplay what turned out to be a serious medical episode. Within weeks of shooting the video, Miley found herself in the ICU.

A hospital dash during the holidays

“I filmed this video in October,” Miley recalled, “and by November at Thanksgiving I was put in ICU for a moment. Just for a moment.” She added that the emergency room was overcrowded with seasonal mishaps—“people choking on turkey legs or whatever”—but her case was serious enough to warrant close attention.

The infection, she said, began around her kneecap. “My leg began to disintegrate within some way around the kneecap area,” she explained, noting that the damage wasn’t subtle. “The doctor goes, ‘You have any idea why you would have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?’ and I just saw myself dancing, rolling around on that sidewalk, and I had to tell them.”

Miley recounted the surreal moment when even her surgeon was visibly repulsed. “To have a surgeon look at you and say, ‘Yuck’—like, they open up cadavers! They see inside the gut of humans. And they’re looking at me, telling me I’m disgusting?”

Rolling on a dream and the Walk of Fame

What makes this incident even more memorable is how it embodies Miley’s “all in” approach to her creative work. The Something Beautiful visual album, which explores vulnerability, fame, and artistic evolution, was a passion project with a limited budget—at least by Hollywood standards.

While the film’s concept was grand, Miley admitted most of the funding went into styling. “I had a pretty good budget, but I spent it all on my clothes,” she quipped. “So then when it came time to go to the Walk of Fame, they’re like, ‘So what are you gonna do? Are you gonna rent this thing or what? Because that’s really out of your price range.’”

Her solution? A guerrilla-style nighttime shoot. “No permits, no cleanup crew, no steaming the sidewalk. We just went in the middle of the night,” she said. “Have you been to the Walk of Fame in the middle of the night?” she asked Jimmy. “I thought it was my last day.”

Despite the unsanitary conditions—and the consequences that followed—Miley remains proud of the video and its place in the visual narrative of her album. The Walk of Fame sequence is just one part of a larger body of work that blends music, film, and visual storytelling.

The film, the music, and the message

Something Beautiful, both as an album and a film, marks a more introspective and emotionally layered chapter in Miley’s career. Known for constantly reinventing herself—from Disney’s Hannah Montana to her edgy Bangerz era—she now presents a body of work that merges cinematic ambition with raw emotion.

The visual album, according to insiders, is a journey through different aspects of identity, fame, and femininity. Scenes range from theatrical to gritty, glamorous to grounded—mirroring the contrasts within Miley herself. The Walk of Fame video, while visually striking, is emblematic of the lengths she’s willing to go to realize her artistic vision. Despite the health scare, Miley has no regrets. “Art should be felt,” she said in a previous interview. “Even if it bruises a little—physically or emotionally.”

Looking forward, unapologetically

Miley’s health has since improved, and the ICU visit is now a strange footnote in the rollout of her new project. Yet, the story reveals much about the star’s drive, resilience, and willingness to take risks—both artistic and physical.

As Something Beautiful prepares for release, the buzz surrounding both the music and the film continues to grow. Fans are eager to see not just the final visuals, but also the behind-the-scenes tenacity that brought them to life. And with Miley at the center of it all—bruised knee and all—the project is shaping up to be one of the year’s most personal and talked-about artistic endeavors.
