The condition, she explained, could lead to an imbalance in the way the babies received nutrients, with one potentially receiving too much and the other too little. That imbalance could trigger twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a life-threatening complication for both babies.

After an emergency checkup, the singer learned she would need a procedure to address the TTTS. “It’s obviously not what we wanted to happen,” she said at the time, “but it’s necessary because it’s going to give our babies the best chance of surviving.”
