How Beyoncé inspired Lizzo’s bold new blonde transformation

Grammy-winning pop icon Lizzo has unveiled a striking new look, stepping confidently into what she calls her “blonde era.” First debuting the icy platinum blonde hairstyle at the 2025 Met Gala, Lizzo’s bold transformation pays homage to none other than Beyoncé’s iconic platinum “Cowboy Carter” hair. Alongside this fresh aesthetic, the singer continues to openly share her evolving journey of self-love, body positivity, and artistic inspiration.

A nod to queen bey’s iconic style and influence

On May 22, Lizzo took to Instagram to share a series of photos and videos showcasing her dazzling new icy blonde locks. Among the images was a meaningful throwback — a screenshot of Beyoncé rocking the very platinum blonde hairstyle Lizzo has now made her own. The look originally appeared in an April promotional post for Beyoncé’s hair care brand, CÉCRED.

For Lizzo, Beyoncé is much more than a style icon. The singer has long credited Queen Bey as a major inspiration for her entire music career and personal growth. On an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen earlier this month, Lizzo recalled the emotional moment when she discovered Beyoncé had name-dropped her in the 2022 anthem “Break My Soul.”

“At first, I thought somebody was messing with me,” Lizzo admitted. “Then I realized it was Beyoncé paying homage to the women who inspire her, and that really moved me.” She added, “I’m very, very honored to this day. I love her very, very much. And, yeah, I’m still gooped and gagged.” This heartfelt admiration sets the tone for her latest style evolution, a tribute that is both personal and public.

Debuting the blonde era on stage and the red carpet

Lizzo didn’t wait long to show off her icy transformation in full glam. On May 22, she took the stage alongside SZA and Kendrick Lamar during the first Los Angeles stop of SZA’s Grand National Tour. Wearing a chocolate brown lace bodysuit that made her platinum hair shine under the stage lights, Lizzo embodied fierce confidence and radiant energy. After the performance, she posted a glamorous photo set on Instagram captioned, “Just a girl & her blonde era,” giving fans a closer look at the stunning new hairstyle.

To complement her golden hair tones, Lizzo accessorized with a striking large gold cross necklace and perfectly manicured almond-shaped nails with gold French tips. An array of gold rings, some adorned with dark stones, added dramatic flair and elevated the ensemble. The look marked an exciting new chapter in Lizzo’s visual identity, blending boldness with a refined sense of glamour.

The blonde era officially kicked off at the 2025 Met Gala, an event themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” encouraging attendees to showcase tailored fashion that expressed their identity. Lizzo arrived wearing a custom black and white corset gown by Christian Siriano, styled with old Hollywood-inspired curls from her blonde wig. The look perfectly fused timeless elegance with a contemporary edge, embodying the spirit of the event while announcing Lizzo’s fresh style era.

Embracing transformation beyond hair

Lizzo’s Met Gala appearance also put a spotlight on another ongoing transformation — her weight loss journey. Open and candid on social media, Lizzo has been sharing her “weight release journey” with a focus on mental and physical health. She recently spoke about this in an April 2025 interview on Jay Shetty’s podcast On Purpose, emphasizing the slow and private nature of her changes.

“My body has been changing very slowly, but I don’t think people were paying attention,” Lizzo said. “I would show different things like my workouts or what I eat in a day, but we have to remember not everyone is seeing all of it all the time.” She reflected on how sudden public appearances can create a misleading impression of overnight transformation. “Everybody’s not privy to what you’re going through. They’re not with you every day. So when I pop out on a red carpet or when a video suddenly goes viral and my body looks different, it seems like it happened overnight, but it didn’t,” she explained.

By embracing these changes on her own terms — from hair to health — Lizzo continues to inspire her fans worldwide. Her blonde era represents more than just a new hairstyle; it’s a symbol of growth, empowerment, and artistic reinvention. With her trademark confidence and vulnerability, Lizzo reminds us all that transformation is a journey worth celebrating.
