The Custom Manicure of Your Dreams: Paintbox Launches Personalized Press-On Service

As a beauty editor, I’m always looking for new ways to elevate my nail game. While I’ve tried everything from gels to long-lasting polishes, I’ve never been able to build a custom look from scratch—until now. Paintbox, the New York City nail studio known for its celebrity clientele and professional-level polishes, has just launched a new custom press-on service. It promises to deliver personalized, high-end nail artistry directly to your door, and I was able to try it out firsthand to see if it lives up to the hype.

The New Era of Personalized Beauty

The launch of this new service is a direct response to a growing trend in the beauty industry: a shift away from simple convenience and toward meaningful personalization. According to Tony Tjan, CEO of Paintbox and MiniLuxe, the service offers “atelier-level artistry delivered at scale” by combining one-on-one consultations with true craftsmanship. It’s designed for beauty enthusiasts who want an entirely original look, not a mass-produced one.

While the service offers premade sets for those who prefer them, the real appeal is the ability to create a completely unique design. This dedication to personalization is what sets Paintbox apart from other beauty brands.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Custom Artistry

The process for getting your dream manicure is a simple three-step journey. It all starts with a 30-minute consultation, which can be done either in-person at the SoHo studio or virtually. During this session, you collaborate with a nail artist to choose your desired nail length, shape, and overall design concept.

After the consultation, your artist will send you a preview of your custom manicure to approve. Once you give the go-ahead, the studio’s nail artists get to work, and your unique set of press-ons will be ready for pickup or professional application in as little as two weeks.

My Firsthand Experience

I was excited to try the service myself and worked with nail artist Irene to bring a specific vision to life. After a casual scroll through social media for inspiration, I knew I wanted to create a look with cat-eye gradients and 3D applications. I ultimately decided on a long, almond-shaped nail to complement the design.

Working with Irene was a breeze, and she was able to perfectly capture my vision in the design preview she sent me. My finished set arrived in about a week, which felt incredibly fast given the level of detail. Although the nails came with gel tabs, I chose to use nail glue to ensure extra hold, and they looked and felt just like a professional manicure. The best part is that the set is reusable, which provides even more value for the investment.

Since the salon now keeps a record of my unique nail sizes in my profile, I won’t have to return for another consultation if I want to design another set in the future. The entire process was as easy as a regular manicure, with the added benefit of a custom, reusable product.
